I love mom

This year some of our younger clients decided to use our newly created framed chalkboards to make some extra special Mother’s Day memories.

These little girls clearly love their mothers.

Abby proudly displays the picture that she carefully created for her mother.

Harper smiles at her mother while she shows off her artwork

Skyler may have needed some help with her chalkboard, but you can see by the way she is smiling at her mommy that she thinks she is the greatest.

Don’t forget Father’s Day is fast approaching!

Make your appointment soon to ensure the father’s in your life get a gift they will truly love.

The scowl

This is what Harper’s family calls the “Harper Scowl”.

This is the face you see when Harper’s mother says, “it’s time to clean your room.”

She displays it proudly when her father says, “you must eat your vegetables if you want to have dessert.”

We had the privilege of capturing this “face only Harper could make” during her last photo session.  Unfortunately, we can’t remember what it was exactly that provoked the “Harper Scowl”.  So we thought maybe you could come up with a funny quote to go along with this portrait.

We can’t wait to hear what you come up with!

*This message was approved by Harper’s mother.  We would never post unwilling participants photos in such a manner.*

A boy and his Balloons!

If you are new to our blog, you may not have known that March=Balloons at ESP.

One of our lucky March clients was so happy about the balloons that he just had to applaud.

Even when the balloons went away, he was still smiling.

He continued to entertain us with his cuteness for the entire session.

We love photographing this little man!

His parents planned ahead and signed up for our Baby Plan, so you can look forward to seeing more of his smiles.

Spring time Girls

Our April theme is all things Spring.  Our April clients will enjoy using our springtime tissue paper flowers in their photo sessions, as well as the beautiful flowers surrounding our studio.

Six year old Harper and one year old Skyler have already made it in for their Spring sessions.  They brought their adorable Easter dresses along and gave us some great Spring images to share with you.

Tissue Paper Flowers

We recently stumbled upon this interesting DIY blog post on Pinterest.

We decided to give this project a shot minus the giant flower stems.

This is what happened…

We gathered spring inspired tissue paper.

We cut out three different sizes for our petals.  Four sheets of tissue paper for each size.

We then gathered up the small petals like so.

Then, we added the medium-sized petals and finally the large petals.

As we added the petals, we consistently twisted the bottoms to make a stem.

Using tan tissue paper, we cut a few sheets in a circle and crumbled the edges to add depth.

Using Elmers glue, we attached the flower center and dry moss to the tissue paper flower.

The finished project.

March = Balloons!

We have decided that the month of March is for balloons!

We are determined to use a balloon, or many balloons, in each of our March photography sessions.  We can’t wait to share all of our exciting ideas and fun balloons with our clients.  We plan to give balloons to babies, children, high school seniors, adults, brides, families, and everyone else!  Oh man, this is going to be so much fun!

Since we haven’t taken any balloon photos yet, here are a few ideas we found on Pinterest.

(Click the photos to see the original sources)

We can’t wait to share our own balloon images with you!

We still have a few March sessions available.  All you have to do is schedule an appointment and show up with a smile!

Can’t wait to see you with a balloon!

Photo Perfect Baby Basket

At Erica Salmon Photography, we love props!

We are constantly looking for, buying, creating, and using props in our photography studio.

Recently, we photographed handsome Leland Oesterling in this comfy basket during his 3 Month session.

Leland is no stranger to this awesome basket.  He was photographed in it as a newborn also.

This basket is one of our favorite baby props.  We enjoy the versatility offered by it.  We have photographed other babies in the basket also and we manage to get a fresh new image every time it is used.

Our basket is just one of the many, many props we have in our studio.  We strive to always keep useful, photo-perfect props on hand to ensure we always create a one-of-a-kind image.

Framed Chalkboard Photography Prop

February Prop Project: Chalkboard Picture Frames

This months DIY prop project earned us some photo perfect chalkboards.  These chalkboards can be used to display any message from a child’s age to a family name.

Here’s how we did it…

Supplies Needed:

First, we did a little consignment shopping and found these interesting frames.

Second, we removed the glass and artwork from the frames.  We discarded everything but the backing, which we will need later.

Next, we applied 2 coats of a semi-gloss paint to each frame.

While the frames were drying, we used the backing as a size guide…

to score and cut a piece of cardboard.

Using the measured cardboard, we cut a piece of Dry Erase contact paper large enough to overlap each side of the cardboard.

Now comes the hard part: attaching the contact paper to the cardboard.

Make sure you do this slowly to ensure no creases!

Next, we wrapped the contact paper around the back of the cardboard and taped it down.

After the frames were completely dry, we placed the chalkboard pieces in them and replaced the backings.

We decided to add a handle to our teal frame.

Using the hot glue gun, we attached the ribbon to the back of the frame.

To make the back more visually appealing and to add more stability to the handle, we used fancy duct tape to cover our hot glue mess.

Here are our new Framed Chalkboards in action!

Miss Ellie requested her age, name, and a flower for the teal chalkboards photo debut.

Jack decided to write his own chalkboard message, "Jack is Awesome 6 1/2"

Clearly, Jack is Awesome!

Ellie designed this chalkboard with her signature and a chocolate chip cookie
